I love your SBTE’s issue box concept. I think that is a great way to build a relationship with students and show them that you care about what is going out in their lives inside and outside of school. The one on one conversations probably mean a lot to the students and show that the teacher is really willing to go the extra mile to provide community in the classroom. I also like how you talked about the teacher’s use of the Vietnamese student’s culture as a discussion topic. That is a great way to introduce students and make them feel welcome and accepted along with giving them a chance to talk to the students about a cultural difference that may not have otherwise been discussed. Sounds like a great classroom to work with!
